About the Artist :
Holly Sanders is a proud Bundjalung woman from the North Coast of New South Wales. She now lives and works on Dharawal and Yuin Countries as both a teacher and an artist. Holly’s artwork shares her personal stories, her connection to Country, and her rich cultural heritage in a fresh, contemporary style.
For Holly, painting is more than an art form—it is a way to honour her identity, maintain cultural traditions, and express her respect for her ancestors and the land. She draws inspiration from the natural world around her, including the land, skies, rivers, and oceans. The changing patterns of Country throughout the day and across seasons are reflected in the colours, shapes, and flow of her work.
Holly celebrates the enduring connection her people—the Bundjalung, Yuin, and Dharawal—have with Country. She also recognises and respects the stories, customs, and living cultures of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the oldest continuing cultures in the world. Through her art, Holly invites others to engage with, learn from, and appreciate these deep and ongoing cultural connections.
